KANSAS CITY, KAN. Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius and Mayor Joe Reardon of The Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kan. have proclaimed September 3rd and 4th as “Kansas City Music Blues and Jazz Weekend.”

Both government officials have issued the proclamation in honor of the Labor Day weekend Kansas City Music Blues and Jazz Festival to be held at the Woodlands Horse Track.  The two-day concert will feature 24 musical acts from nationally recognized blues and jazz musicians to hometown favorites.

“This is just awesome,” said a grinning Mark Valentine, Kansas City musician and festival organizer. “Proclamations from both the state and the city underscore the importance of The Blues and Jazz Festival to Kansas City. This will be a great weekend and the nod of approval from the Mayor and The Governor tells me the Festival has found a good home.”

The Kansas City Music Blues & Jazz Festival includes headline acts from John Lee Hooker, Jr., Billy Paul and Joanna Connor. They will also be joined by popular blues and jazz musicians like Lonesome Hank, Mama Ray, Chubby Carrier, The Scamps and Sons of Brasil, among others. The festival also recently added Bobby Carson, Bobby Watson, Jimmy Bratcher, Dustin Thomas, Dan Doran and The Rain Dogs to the schedule.

All festival attendees will also be eligible to win one of two guitars valued at more than $700 each and autographed by Hooker, Jr.
