Mark Valentine began his career as a professional musician as a William Jewel College student in 1972.
Soon he was playing weekly shows at Dinkledorf's Deli in the hot spot known as The River Quay.
Later that same year, he launched into show promotion by renting a theater for a multi-band rock show.
In 2013, he played his 9,000th show.

Over the last 5 decades Mark Valentine has shared the stage with Robert Cray, Gretchen Wilson, Billy Ray Cyrus,
Eddie Money, The Little River Band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Nick Lowe, The Byrds, Jackyl, Nigel Dupree,
Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Jim Dandy and Black Oak Arkansas, James Otto, Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show, Mitch Ryder, Molly Hatchet,
Chris Cagle, Bo Diddly, The Impressions, Betty Wright, Bobby Lewis, Bill Haley's Comets, John Lee Hooker Jr,
Billy Paul, Joanna Connors, Chubby Carrier, Logan Mize, The Brothers Osborne and others.


Box of Chalk, Inc. was incorporated in 1991 by Mark Valentine.
Box of Chalk has become one of the most active music companies in the Kansas City area. 
Box of Chalk operates KansasCityMusic.com, the EvenDriver media program and produces several festivals in the Kansas City Metro.
